  Sea Kayaking Courses

Sea kayaking is a popular branch of canoeing and kayaking. The sea kayaks are designed to go in a straight line and cover large distances with minimal effort, allowing you to explore and delight in the wonder of the sea environment.

We provide expert and patient coaching on our courses - treating you as an individual, developing your sea kayak control and awareness of the sea environment. Low ratio instruction on all our sea kayaking courses enables us to concentrate on the specific skills that you need developing.

Based in Snowdonia, we have access to the varied and interesting coastline of North Wales. From exploring sea caves in sheltered bays to viewing wildlife around islands and not to forget the unique tidal races off Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsular. See course venues for more details.

We specalise in providing personalised courses that are tailored to your individual needs and desires, taking into account your previous flat or white water experience, on dates that BCU British Canoe Unionsuit. Below are a list of coursesWelsh Canoe Association on offer that you can join as an individual on set dates. Private white water courses are from just £40 per person for 1:4 ratio. Our courses now include the new BCU 3 Star Sea Kayak Award

     Introduction to Sea Kayaking

     

This course is for those that have tried kayaking before and now wish to try paddling a specialised sea kayak and explore the sea environment.

We will undertake some journeys around Anglesey were kayak coaching will be mixed with admiring the views and wildlife spotting. This can also be used as a BCU Sea Kayaking 3 Star Training Course.

    BCU Sea Kayak 3 Star Assessment / Training

     

This is the new 3 Star course as of the 1st September 2007. Gaining the award demonstrates that you are a competent journeying on the sea in calm to moderate seas with winds less than force 3.

 

Key Points Covered

• One Day Practical Assessment

• Two Day Further Training & Assessment Option

• Gain BCU Sea Kayak 3 Star Award

 

The course can either be done as a one day assessment, if you feel you are at the standard, or alternatively a two day course. The two day course provides an initial day of refining and refreshing your sea kayaking skills.

    Intermediate Sea Kayaking

     

Improve your kayak manoeuvring skills in stronger winds, swell and the beginnings of tidal races, as we journey on slightly more committing stretches of coastline.

• Adapting Edge & Trim in Wind and Rough Water

• Beginnings of Tidal Races

• Tidal Planning & Weather

• Rescues at Sea

 

We will look at edge, trim and paddle strokes to improve your performance. This course also includes tidal planning, weather and sea rescues - both for yourself and other members of the group.

Intermediate sea kayaking course

         

    Rough Water & Tidal Races

     

An advanced course for people who want to feel the power of the sea. We will play in some of the main tidal races and look at boat control in winds above force 3.

• Advanced Rescues, Tidal Planning & Navigation

 

Venues will be chosen that are challenging while safe allowing you to lean about kayak control while surfing waves or turning in strong winds. It will also include advanced navigation and tidal planning as well as rescues.
